Okay, guys, the official trailer for SOLO: A Star Wars Story was released last night and it even has a new poster. Excuse me while I freak out.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay. Deep breaths.
So let’s watch the trailer together. Grab your popcorn!

SOLO: A Star Wars Story Official Trailer Breakdown
Okay, now that we’ve all seen it, let’s discuss it. We can’t watch the trailer without discussing it. I mean, come on.
The Characters
You may or may not know this from my previous posts, but characters are the most important part of a story to me. I’m really excited to see how these characters develop in SOLO.
Han Solo
Han Solo has been an important cinematic character since A New Hope, and now we get to see how he became our lovable scoundrel thanks to Alden Ehrenreich. From this official trailer, we know he’s after something, but what is it? Is it revenge? Against who? That strange alien species he faces off against western-style at the beginning of the trailer? Is he after money? We all know Han loves his money, almost as much as he loves the Falcon. What is it that convinces Han to take this job they’re talking about? And can we talk about his face when he beholds the Falcon?
From the teaser trailer, we know that Han wanted to be an Imperial pilot. It’s clear from this official trailer (and of course from the original trilogy) that that path must not have worked out, but we don’t know why. Still, as Han says, “I’m a driver. And I’m a flyer.” Am I the only one who got goosebumps at that part? Yes? That’s okay.
To be completely honest, part of me wants Harrison Ford to play Han Solo and just use my imagination to pretend that he’s 20 years old, but after seeing the teaser and official trailers I really am excited to see Alden portray our scruffy nerf-herder.
Chewie
Chewie has been around for a LONG time. Let’s talk about Han’s amazement that his new companion is 190 years old. To be completely honest, I had a similar reaction. And he’s right: Chewie does look good for being almost two centuries old!
Here’s what I really want to know: how did our two favorite smugglers meet? Did they like each other right off the bat? They seem to get along just fine in the trailer, but how did that initial meeting go?
Also, who is this other Wookiee? What happens to him/her? Guys, I don’t think I’m ready to see Chewie lose another friend, not so soon after The Force Awakens (and yes, TFA takes place however many years AFTER SOLO, but I don’t have it in me to see Chewie lose two people within three years).
And most importantly, HOW does Chewie escape that near-death experience, hanging out of the train heading straight for a rock?
Lando
To be completely honest, I think I’m most excited to see Donald Glover present Lando Calrissian, and I loved seeing the interaction between Han and Lando in this official trailer. It looks like they’re betting big money right off the bat, and we all know that Han won the Falcon in a bet…. “Everything you’ve heard about me is true,” he tells Han. Again, goosebumps! Man, these actors sure know how to deliver their lines. Also, let’s talk about the fact that Lando is the best smuggler around in SOLO, according to new character Qi’Ra. How will Lando take to losing his Falcon and status as best smuggler around to Han Solo?
Others
- Tobias Beckett. He’s got a job for Han, and if Han takes it, he’s “in this life for good.” Who better to play the leader of a band of misfits with an agenda than Woody Harrelson?
- Qi’Ra. Who is this beautiful young woman who seems to know so much about Han Solo? Whoever she is, she looks like she can kick some serious butt, and I cannot wait to see what Emilia Clarke can add to the Star Wars saga.
- L3-37. Okay, we all love droids (and if you don’t, don’t tell me, because I will have to shun you). K-2SO is probably my favorite, mostly because I love the humor of his sarcastic comments. It looks like L3 is going to be just as awesome. “So glad we took this job!” cracks me up considering that it looks like the world is falling apart at the time.
The Job
What is this job? We still don’t know for sure, but it obviously has something to do with smuggling. Why else would they need the best smuggler around? We also know that a big shot gangster is the one putting together this crew. Whatever the job ends up being, it’s going to give Han the shot he’s been waiting a long time for, whatever that is.
Whatever the job ends up being, we can see from the official trailer that it’s going to take these characters on an exciting, sometimes explosive, ride. It must have something to do with the Imperial Empire, considering that storm-troopers are firing at our band of misfits.
The Falcon
The Falcon might be a piece of junk in the original and sequel trilogies, but it looks state of the art in the SOLO official trailer! The bright lights, the clean cuts…. And what about Han’s face when he walks aboard? Does he somehow know that this is going to be his one day?
From the official trailer, it looks like our characters are going to be facing quite a lot of challenges in SOLO: A Star Wars Story, and what better getaway than the Millenium Falcon? If the Falcon can get our characters out of trouble in the original and sequel trilogies, I can’t wait to see what it does in SOLO.
