Beauty and Clockwork Beast COVER

Jane Eyre meets Beauty and the Beast.

When Lucy Pickett arrives at Blackwell Manor to tend to her ailing cousin, Kate, she finds more than she bargained for. A restless ghost roams the hallways, werewolves have been reported in the area, and vampires lurk across the Scottish border. Lord Miles himself is clearly hiding a secret. He is brash and inhospitable, and does not take kindly to visitors—even one as smart and attractive as Miss Pickett. He is unsettled by the mysterious deaths of his new wife, Clara, and his sister, Marie. Working together, Miles and Lucy attempt to restore peace to Blackwell Manor. But can Lucy solve the mystery of Miles? Can she love the man—beast and all?

My Review of Beauty and the Clockwork Beast

If you love Gothic tales, you will love Beauty and the Clockwork Beast. It is full of all of the darkness that makes Gothic literature wonderful. Yet rather than just being a Gothic novel, it is also of the Steampunk genre. I think of Steampunk as a kind of alternate reality. All of those I’ve read are like our history, yet with a lot of steam powered machines and things that Tesla would have invented. It is always interesting to see how an author describes things in a Steampunk world. This one doesn’t disappoint. You’ll really feel like you are in an alternate reality.

The characters in Beauty and the Clockwork Beast are so well written! I absolutely love Lucy and Miles. Miles is that dark, brooding character who doesn’t want to get close to anyone, and Lucy is bound to get to know more about him. The minor characters in the book play important roles, so they don’t feel like minor characters at all. They’re just as well written as are Lucy and Miles.

I love the whole vampire theme of this book because it doesn’t feel like a typical “vampire novel.” It’s not just a vampire book. It is a love story. It is a ghost story. And it is a mystery! The descriptive settings in this book really make the story so much fun to read. You’ll become immersed in the story and be kept guessing.  This is one to add to your lists!
