Pug

Pugs are undoubtedly one of the cutest and most advertised breeds of dog. For many dog owners, getting a pug is even the dream of a lifetime! But before you start the great adventure of every pug owner, there are first a few basics that you need to keep at the back of your mind. It is important when choosing a dog, to make the right choice for your needs and lifestyle. It is even more important to understand exactly the dog you have picked as your darling pet, to make sure that it also will receive all it needs in love, food, fun and care.

Do You Really Love Pugs?

We can hear you already: ‘Yes, I adore them,’ you say. While this may be very true, it is nevertheless a valid question to ask yourself. Pugs have a reputation for being an intelligent breed, full of fun and energy. This makes them very entertaining dogs, but they can also be quite demanding too. Temperamental and high energy, you will need to be ready for this little ball of energy that can be racing around the house to keep itself entertained. While pugs are small-sized compared to other breeds, they will leave a rather similar path of destruction in their path when they are untrained puppies. Don’t believe for a second that because they are pocket-sized, pugs are low maintenance dogs!

Ask yourself how much you love pugs and what it is you love about them before you decide to adopt one.

Understand The Needs of Your Pug

So you have made up your mind, and nothing is going to stop you. Great! Pugs are very loyal and quirky friends, so there will be a lot of fun times ahead!

But pugs also have special requirements that are related to the characteristics of their breed. Pugs are deliciously wrinkly, this is one of their most charming features. It is also one of their highest health risks as their skin is very fragile. Dry and itchy skin is not uncommon for pugs, and this is a phenomena that is worse for the wrinkles on the face.

Additionally, their little size can sometimes make them lazy, as a result of being carried in the arms of their owner too often. Who can blame you? They are so cute; it’s impossible not to want to carry them all day! Consequently, you will need to know the answer to an essential question, what’s the best food for pugs, to avoid causing further health problems.

Welcome Your Pug At Home

Establishing a loving and caring relationship with your new friend starts from the moment you have chosen the pug of your heart. It is important that you plan well ahead so that everything can be ready for your pug as they discover their new house. Purchase all the necessary equipment, such as a dog bed for example among other things, and prepare the travel back home very carefully. You can find a lot of good ideas for your first step as a dog owner here to welcome your dog as smoothly and stress-free as possible.
