Blonde brownies
I absolutely love to bake. I love to bake because I like creating things that people enjoy. Also, I love baking because I love sweets. And, of course, the batter always tastes great (please don’t talk to me about salmonella. I know). However, despite my love for baking, sometimes I don’t have the time or energy to make something that takes a lot of steps. I like to turn to my blonde brownie recipe when I’m low on energy and time, and I’m here to share the recipe for blonde brownies with you so that you have an easy dessert recipe to turn to when you’re short on time, too.

This is the fourth post in my #bakingwithkylorey series. In case you missed it, I started an Instagram series featuring my Kylo Ren and Rey FunkoPop figures as a way to pass the time between now and Star Wars Episode IX. I share their baking adventures on my Instagram and the recipes here on Mom’s blog. You can follow their baking adventures by following my Instagram (molly.becca119) or the hashtag #bakingwithkylorey. Some other recipes include:
Blonde Brownie Recipe
What are blonde brownies? There are many different recipes for blonde brownies (also known as blondies), just as there are many different recipes for brownies. Basically, blonde brownies/blondies are brownies without cocoa powder. This particular blonde brownie recipe is kind of like a cross between brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Kylo and Rey discuss blondies in the first part of this particular series, which you can read about on my Instagram. But keep scrolling for the actual recipe.

Rey: we’ve already made two different types of brownies. Now cocoa less brownies? When are we going to make cookies? Kylo: these blondies are also basically chocolate chip cookies in bar form.
This blondie recipe comes from an old cookbook that’s been part of my family for longer than I have. Does anybody else happen to have the cookbook Bar Cookie Bonanza!? Ours is actually in pretty good condition, despite being 27 years old. Anyways, this particular recipe is attributed to Debbie Agnes. So you can thank Debbie for this super easy dessert recipe.
For this recipe you will need:
- 1 stick of butter (1/2 cup), melted
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Are you ready for the instructions? Here they are:
Mix everything except for the chocolate chips into the melted butter. Yes, it’s that easy.
Press the batter/dough into a greased 13×9-inch pan, then sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Bake at 350 degrees (don’t forget to preheat the oven!) for about 20 minutes. Once they’re cool, cut them into bars and serve.

Rey: I love brown sugar. It’s like playing in the sand.
The blonde brownies are chewy and chocolate-y and a huge hit with my family and friends. I’m excited to hear what you think of them, so come back to let me know!

Rey: these non-cookie cookies are really good.
Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram (molly.becca119) to keep up with Kylo and Rey’s baking adventures.
