DawnKing Excerpt
[Mara has mixed feelings about traveling under Rand’s protection. When they encounter outlaws, concern for him overrules her hesitation. The masked outlaw leader seems strangely familiar to Mara.]
“What shall we do with him?” A burly man, one of several who remained beside Rand, asked in gruff tones.
“Blindfold him.” The outlaw leader gestured with his head. “Take him to camp.”
“Must we?” the burly man screwed up an eye. “I’ve an idea he’s trouble.”
“You’re probably right, Trader, but he and I need to finish our talk.” He circled Rand, looking him up and down. “Something tells me he’s not who he seems.”
Rand glared at the leader but said nothing.
Trader untied the Trader untied the strip of cloth that bound his sleeve at the cuff and knotted it around Rand’s head.
Flanked by two of the band with one following and another before him, Rand disappeared into the darkness of the keirken grove.
“Where are you taking him?” Mara asked in sharp tones.
“Does it matter that much to you?” The leader spoke in the accent of the north.
“Your voice…” She trailed off, trying again to place him.
“Never mind me. I want to help you. Tell me, has your companion harmed you?”
Why should an odd tremor run through his voice? It reminded her of other words spoken long ago, when she’d taken her leave from a friend. Her eyes narrowed. “If I didn’t know better…”
“Will you answer my question?”
He’d thrown her by disguising his voice and hiding his face but she knew him now. “Tell me your name.”
“What does it matter? They call me Searcher. That is who I am, with my domain the wild lands and my heritage the wind.”

Thanks for stopping by!
My favorite thing about reading fantasy is the world building. It doesn’t hurt when there are elves, either. 🙂
The world building is a huge draw for me too!
love the cover! I love all the magic 😀
Thanks so much. I’m partial to the cover too. 🙂
I am in a reading rut! I have favorite authors and I just lean toward them and their writing style. But I have decide to expand my reading and this books sounds interesting.
Thanks for giving a new-to-you author a chance. 🙂
I love fantasy because I get more engrossed in this genre.
I find fantasy involving also, Shannon. Being transported to somewhere intriguing is what I want most to give and receive in fiction.
