Thanks for sharing!

Looking for a job that can earn you big bucks? Certain career fields pay more on average than others. By targeting these industries, you can increase your chances of landing a large pay check. Here are just some of the highest paying industries right now in the US.

IT

Information technology is an industry that is constantly growing – as computers become a larger part of our lives, more and more jobs are created. The average IT salary is $68k, but depending on where you choose to specialize, you could end up earning a lot more than this. Software developers and engineers regularly end up earning more than $100k, while cloud infrastructure architects typically make an average of $161k. Areas such as data science, cloud computing and digital security are currently some of the hottest areas for earning big. There are individual degrees available for all of these specialisms.

Finance

Those working in the finance sector typically make an average salary of $63k. However, there is the potential to make much more than this, depending on the type of finance job you land. Hedge fund managers typically make around $98k, while chief financial officers make an average salary of $128k. The cut-throat areas of investment and financial analytics tend to be where the highest-paying jobs are. You’ll need a finance-related degree to get into this industry.

Engineering

Engineering is a broad industry dedicated to the design and construction of structures and machines using science. Engineers typically earn an average salary of $70k, but depending on the type of engineer you choose to become, you can earn much more. For instance, aerospace engineers make an average salary of $113k, while petroleum engineers make an average salary of $132k. Landing an engineering job requires an engineering degree.

Energy

There’s also a lot of money to be made in the energy sector. With the threat of climate change looming, there’s now a huge demand for sustainable energy projects. The average salary in this industry is $71k – solar project developers make an average salary of $84k, while those working for the US Department of Energy can make as much as $160K. An energy-related degree is typically required to get into these industries.

Medicine

Medicine remains a highly paid career – physicians typically make as much as $294k per year. Certain areas of medicine can earn you even more than this! For instance, cardiologists take home $343k per year on average. Becoming a cardiologist is no easy feat and requires years of investment in medical school training and fellowship training. That said, you can find plenty of openings for cardiologists on Practice Match – it’s a hard occupation to get into, but the demand is there. Areas like anesthesiology and neuroscience are very well paid too.

Law

Lawyers are still very well paid too, making $144k per year on average. Tax attorneys can make more than this, while law firm administrators can make as much as $750k. How do you become a law firm administrator? This guide at Contemporary Staffing offers some information on landing this high-flying job if you’ve got a keen interest in law.
