KittyKai’s Easter Mystery: A Cobble Cove Story
Cozy Mystery Story
4th in Story Series
Publisher: Solstice Publishing
Number of Pages ~55

During an Easter egg hunt at the Cobble Inn, a ring is found on the grounds by Alicia’s daughter, Carol. When the sheriff has it examined, he discovers it belonged to him and Gilly’s neighbor, Gretchen Miller, who disappeared the month before. An investigation leads to the discovery of Mrs. Miller’s body buried on the site of the inn’s new construction.

As Alicia and Gilly set out to solve this new mystery despite their husbands’ discouragement, Sneaky and Kittykai, the library and inn cats, secretly lend them a paw.

My review of KittyKai’s Easter Mystery

KittyKai’s Easter Mystery is another cute addition to the series. This is a short story and a very quick read.

If you aren’t familiar with the series, you might not want to jump in here. Though you can still enjoy the mystery, you might not enjoy the characters as much as you would had you been familiar with them. Since I read the Halloween mystery in the series, I know how the characters interact with each other.

The mystery is fun to solve, and I enjoyed visiting the kitties again too. They find the best clues! I like that they “talk” to each other and not to their humans. I’m sure my cats talk to each other all of the time!

If you are in the mood for a quick mystery, I think you’ll enjoy KittyKai’s Easter Mystery.

Guest Post for KittyKai’s Easter Mystery: Why a Calico? by Debbie De Louise

It took four books before I introduced KittyKai, the Cobble Cove inn cat, who joined Sneaky, the Library Cat, in helping Alicia and Gilly solve the town’s mysteries. KittyKai joined the series in Love on the Rocks, and her photo appears on the cover of that book. When I decided that it would be nice to feature another feline character in my cozy mystery series, I held a contest in my newsletter for the new cat’s name. The winner, who was chosen randomly, submitted a photo of her Calico cat, KittyKai.

Ironically, shortly after that book was published, I adopted two kittens, one of who is my now 2-and-a-half-year-old calico, Hermione. Although I’d had many types of cats since I was a child, I’d never had a calico. I knew that calicos were almost always females, but I was surprised to learn, after doing some research, that calico isn’t a breed like Persian or Siamese but a coat pattern. I was also surprised to discover that while most calicos are black, orange, and white, there are some like my Hermione who are gray, orange, and white or other less intense shades such as white, lilac, and cream or white, fawn, and cream. These tri-color cats are known as dilute or muted calicos.

Both Sneaky and KittyKai’s characters changed with my Cobble Cove story, Sneaky’s Christmas Mystery, that won a MUSE medallion from the Cat Writers’ Association. While Sneaky had always been adept at helping Alicia find clues, he did so in a cat-like way. For instance, in the first book of the series, A Stone’s Throw, when they first met, Sneaky led Alicia to a box of secret letters by scratching on the box. But after Love on the Rocks, when he is joined by KittyKai, I decided to give voice to the cats and the other pets in the book. I didn’t do this by making them talk to the human characters.

Instead, I feature their conversations with one another in italics, so the reader is privy to them, while Alicia and the other Cobble Cove residents aren’t aware of what the animals are conversing about. This trend continued in the fifth book of the series, No Gravestone Unturned, and in my new release, KittyKai’s Easter Mystery.
