Hippie Wagon Homicide (Twister Sisters Mysteries)
Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Setting – Small farming/tourist town in the Missouri Ozarks
Wings of Ink Publications, LLC (February 1, 2022)
Cordelia Davis lives with no regrets, despite her life changing drastically a half century ago when a tornado altered the destiny of the little Ozark town of Willow Lane. The town grew back stronger and more beautiful, and Cordelia, her sister, Pamela, and her best friend, Wanda, built a life to treasure.
As Willow Lane honors the memory of those lost and celebrates all that has been achieved, tragedy refuses to remain in the past. News of murder rocks the pastoral countryside when Cordelia discovers a body on her farm, beneath her beloved willow tree. And while the police make an immediate arrest, Cordelia finds herself untangling a web of lies and long-ago secrets.
With suspects in every nook of her cozy town—and an old flame knocking on her door—it will take all Cordelia’s tenacity to face the past and to weather the mysteries of Willow Lane.
Character Guest Post: Cordelia Davis
When I crossed the age of sixty, I began to get annoyed with how women my age were dismissed by practically everybody. True, that pleasant experience isn’t reserved until you hit sixty, unfortunately it happens much sooner. However, that special age was a whole new ballgame. It went from being just a common held fact that Cordelia Davis owned and operated a farm and ran Twister Sisters–my casserole delivery business–nobody gave it a second thought. Then the magical six zero hit and Boom! All of the sudden it was “Wow, how amazing that you’ve still got it in you to take care of animals.” Sometimes, “I find it so inspiring you’re still out here delivering those casseroles, driving your hippie wagon. I hope I have that much get up and go when I’m your age.” (This from someone who was fifty-two!) I think it’s the backhanded compliments that got to me the most… that pat on the back for existing just like I always had. Now that I’m sixty-six and still running my farm and delivering casseroles, I don’t even notice such comments. Why lower oneself to humor the ignorant after all?
I have to admit, I’ve been forced to eat a slice of humble pie, as I’ve been a little impressed with myself lately. Not because I’m still running my farm, and not because I’m still delivering my casseroles. I can still walk and chew gum at the same time, too! Don’t get me wrong, I had no intention of slowing down, no intention of not living and enjoying every moment of my life. While my sisters and I might joke with each other about being old, I can promise you none of us feel that way. We are not in our golden years, those are decades off.
But, that humble pie like I mentioned… If someone had tapped me on my shoulder and asked, “Cordelia, would you believe that in a few weeks time, not only will there be a murder on your farm, you and your Twister Sisters are going to help solve it?” Or said, “The love of your life is going to return to you after fifty years, get ready for a whirlwind romance.” And then possibly go so far as to suggest that, “Not only are you going to solve one murder, Cordelia, but a whole string of them.”
Well, I’d tell them they either were spending a little too much time with an open bottle, or possibly they needed to slow down and take a break, because clearly they’d lost touch with reality somewhere. I would’ve chalked up every one of those possibilities as something that was never going to come my way. I might’ve even suggested that if such things were ever going to happen, they would’ve been years ago. I wasn’t the type to go around looking into murder, much less confronting a killer face to face.
You know what? I was wrong! And I can tell you, I’ve never been happier to be wrong. Like I said, I had no intention of slowing down for quite a while, but I wasn’t exactly planning on turning my whole world upside down and speeding up either. I’m thrilled I was wrong–solving who used my hippie wagon to commit murder was one of the most thrilling things I’ve ever done. I’ll tell you another thing, now my fellow Twister Sisters and I make sure we’ve got all the ingredients we need to make both casseroles, and to uncover all the clues required to solve a murder, whenever we go out for a delivery.
By the way, there’s plenty of room in our hippie wagons, why don’t you come along for a ride?
