Nature’s Logic and Toby

If you have a dog, you know they become a part of your family very quickly. We got Toby from the Humane Society when he was just 13 weeks old. We went looking for a female beagle, but like it always happens, you don’t choose your dog, your dog chooses you. As soon as we walked up to his cage and read his card, we knew we needed him. Someone had apparently adopted him and just brought him back because he was too much trouble. Well, of course he was a lot of trouble. He was just a puppy!

The first night we brought him home, he cried like a newborn baby would in the middle of the night. I got up with him and held him until he fell back to sleep, and he slept the rest of the night. Since that first night, he’s never had a night like that. It was just like he needed the reassurance that we were really his people.

As his people, we want to give him food that is both healthy and natural. When Nature’s Logic contacted me for a review, I researched the food and decided to give it a try.

What makes Nature’s Logic special

Nature’s Logic is 100% natural and is the first and only pet food with no synthetic vitamins or minerals. It’s packed with high-quality and carnivore appropriate proteins and contains no corn, wheat or soy. Nature’s Logic contains probiotics and digestive enzymes to help with your pet’s digestion. None of the ingredients are sourced in China, and Nature’s Logic is available in multiple varieties. You can find out which food is right for your pet using their website tools. Their site contains a plethora of information on feeding your dogs and cats.

How to feed your dog Nature’s Logic

When you are switching your dog to a new food, you want to do it gradually. We did this with Toby, but he still seemed to be having a lot of gas. It wasn’t pleasant! I contacted the company, and they provided me with a lot of useful information. It turns out, since this food is so concentrated and nutrient dense, I was overfeeding Toby. The kibble is very small, so it is easy to do! The articles I was sent were so informative and helpful. I wish I could share all of the information with you. I definitely suggest that when in doubt, contact the company. They know what they are doing.

Useful information about feeding dogs only dry food

• Real food, fresh food is 70-80% water. Kibble foods have between 6-10% moisture. Kibble is a dehydrated food, and there is a big difference. Beef jerky is 10-15% moisture. What if you ate beef jerky at every meal?

• Kibble foods require the body to give up a considerable amount of water to soften the dry food before the digestive process can begin. Fresh food is “ready to go” directly into the digestive process

• Dry nuggets of food can cause irritation and inflammation of the stomach lining before this softening occurs. This happens every time a kibble meal is eaten. A small amount of irritation can become more serious when it occurs over a long period of time.

• A kibble meal forces a shift in the distribution of water in the body, pulling fluids from other areas to help the digestive process. This “robbing Peter to pay Paul” approach can cause a mild dehydration in other parts of the body. Just like driving a car when it is low on oil, this mild dehydration is a stress that can cause serious health problems down the road. There is a growing concern that long term feeding of kibble foods may be contributing to the rise in kidney disease, especially in cats.

Add water to your dog’s Nature’s Logic

When you think about it, that totally makes sense! Now when I feed Toby, I add water to his food. It has helped a lot, and he is not gassy like he had been. The water helps to rehydrate the food, and the added water makes Toby feel more satisfied. A satisfied dog is a good thing! I have seen a difference in his digestion since we got the amount right. He also has not had the normal skin issues he seems to get every winter. His skin tends to get really dry, so he licks it until it is all red. He hasn’t done that at all this winter.

I feel very comfortable giving this food to Toby. I recommend that you try this for your dog too!

I didn’t realize that about dehydration but it totally makes sense. I often mix my dogs food with moist (when we have it) so that’s where she gets her extra moisture from.

The fact that none of the ingredients are sourced in China is MAJOR for me. I make a conscious effort to avoid products from China for my family and that includes our pets!

All of our animals mean a great deal to us and we always want what is best for their health and well being. Really like how you can read the list of what is in this food and what isn’t. All natural is always best for animals and us humans.

Pet care is as important as ours. I never realised the amount of moisture dog food has and not enough water can leave our pets dehydrated.

I didn’t either. That might be part of the reason we over feed them because we don’t rehydrate it.

Wow the comparison to beef jerky is interesting! I never would have thought that! I definitely love that they are coming out with less processed foods for dogs though!

I know! You just assume dogs eat dry food and don’t think about it being so low in water!

It’s great that you found a food that is working for him. Adjusting to a new home is a big enough change, being comfortable with the food is a help in adjusting.

I’m so glad you rescued Toby! He is adorable! I remember when my Max was a puppy and every single time we walked on the porch, he grabbed my door mat and chewed it into tiny pieces. I was so thrilled when he finally stopped shredding my door mats. I’ve never heard of Nature’s Logic. I’ll definitely check it out.
