Are you clearing out the clutter in your house? Take a second before you dump everything into the trash because repurposing things can give them a new life! If you love DIY crafts, old stuff is nothing short of a blessing for you. Here are some creative ways to reuse old household items.
1. Paint
Have you had your house painted recently? You can use leftover paint in multiple ways. Use the paint to give your planters a new look, or simply paint some wooden frames that might be hanging in your room. Create new paintings by using the fun technique of acrylic pouring. You can use silicone oil for acrylic pouring to create cells and other patterns. Hang these on your bedroom wall or your guest room.
2. Egg Cartons
There are so many fun crafts your kids can make with egg cartons. Look how cute this Cherry Blossom Craft from RaisingWhasians is. How about these Spring Bugs made from egg cartons on Fun with Mama. You all know how much I love Marvel movies, and this ANT MAN ant craft from Maryland Momma’s Rambles will definitely be a hit at your house.
3. Wallpaper
Renovating the house often leaves you with lots of leftovers that you don’t know how to put to use. Wallpaper is one of those items. Some of the ways you can use leftover wallpaper are so tempting, you might want to go out and purchase extra wallpaper. Frame a piece of wallpaper for a new piece of art. They can also be used as thick book covers for some old and worn out books. Give your drawers a brand new look by using leftover wallpaper as liners for them.
4. Wine Corks
Once you’ve popped open your wine bottle, the wine corks are practically of no use, right? Not so! Wine corks can be used in a variety of ways. Wine corks can also be used to make something as simple as place cards for when you’re hosting dinners like these from Moscato Mom. I love this DIY Wine Cork Utensil Holder from A Magical Mess. Make some wine cork garden markers like these from Premeditated Leftovers. Or you can make these Wine Cork Coasters from The Homespun Hydrangea.
5. Old Cans
Probably the easiest item to recycle is cans. There are a number of ways you can put them back to use. Use them as planters for the kitchen and washroom like these from Gym Craft Laundry. Write your own creative message and make it stand out from the rest. I really like this Washi Tape Desk Storage Upcycle project from A Mother Thing.
6. Furniture Pieces
You will be amazed at how creatively you can reuse some of your old furniture pieces. One of these is using a small ladder as a bookshelf for your bedroom wall. If you have an old headboard lying in the storage for years, paint it and reuse it as a photo frames base. It gives the photo frames a place to stand out, differentiating it from the typical way wall frames are hung.
7. Ceramic Tiles
Do you have a couple of ceramic tiles lying around here and there? Collect them and reuse them to create a path in your backyard, giving it a colorful appearance. Use tile pieces to make a collage. If you’re not up making a collage, you can use a large piece as a cutting board for the kitchen as well.
What are your favorite ways to reuse old household items? I’d love to hear your ideas.
