Casting Call for a Corpse, Book 7
Super sleuth, Lee Alvarez, finds a dead man wearing a tuxedo in an actress friend’s bathtub during a soiree for San Francisco’s VIPs. The police believe it’s the actress who done the man in. After all, it’s her house and her tub. And another man recently died under suspicious circumstances around her. Both romantic encounters, doncha know. The actress must be guilty.
Or is she?
For ace detective Lee Alvarez, the timing couldn’t be worse. She is supposed to go off in celebration of her 6-month wedding anniversary with her hunky hubby. Paris is calling!
Or is it?
Her long-time friend, plus her mother, She Who Must Be Obeyed, think she should stick around and find out who the real killer is. So Lee, family, handsome hubby, and Tugger, the cat, are on the job. But Lee’s nose is itching. Which means not one of the suspects is telling the truth. Certainly, not all of it.
Lee soon uncovers threatening letters, sullen playwrights, dead bodies, and a criminal web of jewel thieves, all treading the boards of her friend’s latest musical. This is showbiz?
Guest post
Hi Everyone. If you haven’t read any of the Alvarez Family Murder Mysteries, please let me welcome you to the family!
When I started this fun detective cozy series revolving around the Alvarez Family, I wanted to show a family that wasn’t the traditional husband, wife, two kids, station wagon, and dog. Even when it starts out like that, life happens. At the very least, your car breaks down and your dog gets fleas. What we discover along the way is you need to hold on to what you have with a lot of love, humor, and flea powder.
As a child, I heard stories of how hard life was for my Italian ancestors who immigrated to this strange but beckoning land during the early part of the twentieth century. My grandfather had two dollars to his name when he stepped onto Ellis Island. Can you imagine? Not speaking the language, not knowing anything about the culture, but having the guts to seek out a better life, with only two bucks to your name?
But he not only survived, he thrived. This determination was and is shared by many ethnic groups. I wanted to highlight one of the more current ethnic groups making inroads into the fabric of American society.
Because humor is built on serious subjects, there’s a lot of it in these books mainly with the quirky Lee Alvarez, a ½ Latina, ½ Palo Alto Blueblood, but 100 percent detective. She’s bright, funny, loving, and driven half mad by her aristocratic, blueblood mother, computer genius brother, and executive chef uncle, all who share ownership in a detective agency in today’s Silicon Valley.
The series is sparkly, humorous, and positive, with always the thrust centered on a family that makes our protagonist, Lee Alvarez, nuts. Even as she’s falling over dead bodies.
I’m happy to say the series has picked up a few awards through the years. Lee, herself, has managed to snag a new hubby, a former Navy SEAL, a handsome addition to the Alvarez clan.
Thank you very much for providing this look inside of your heritage. I cannot imagine the guts it would take to head to a new country with hardly any money and not knowing the language! He was a brave man!
