It’s Not All Downhill… Things to Remember about Turning 40

Lifestyle

Thanks for sharing!

Age is but a number. If you are turning 40, you may very well be dreading it. But the reality is far different. In fact, Americans see their happiness increase after the age of 40. But if you want to be happier as you get older, you may very well want to look at the following bits of information and remember that it’s not all downhill…

Ailments Can Be Cured or Managed

Whether you are concerned about noise-induced hearing loss or you think that your brainpower is going to rapidly deteriorate, ailments in many forms can be managed or cured. When you start to think about the negativity associated with middle-age, there are always things that you can do about it. The question is if you have the initiative to do something about it!

You Don’t Need To Control Everything

We can find that when we are younger, we’ve got to have control over a situation. You may find that as your hair has turned grey, and the wrinkles that develop on your forehead are not the signs you are going to die tomorrow, you may learn to lay back and relinquish some control. You may even find that you are happier as a result.

Your Priorities Will Change

The great thing about getting older that you stop comparing yourself to others as much. You may think that keeping up with the Joneses was the driving force in your life, but it just manifested itself in ways that you didn’t realize. You may have found that you needed a certain career or a specific amount of money to keep you happy. But now, hitting 40 gives you the opportunity to reassess your values and adjust how you live. After all, money isn’t everything.

You Realize Who Is Important in Your Life

Social circles gradually diminish. You may find that the people you have been friends with for so long are not important anymore. And toxic relationships that you were willing to suffer through become insufferable. And it’s for the very simple reason that you don’t want to waste your time anymore. As a result, your social circle slowly diminishes. Those close friends will not disappear, but the friendly acquaintances will. And you will be happier for it.

You Will Preserve Your Happiness

You will do this in many ways. Firstly, you will care less about how others perceive you. You realize that, after a while, your happiness is the most important thing. Many people preserve self-care or finally incorporate it into their lives by learning to be mindful, but this means that you are finally focused on yourself in the best possible way. It’s not about being selfish, but it’s about realizing what you need to do to keep negativity out of your life.

There will be times when you look back on your halcyon days and smile. But even if these people aren’t in your life anymore, you’ve got a whole new set of adventures to come. Turning 40 is not the end of the world; it’s a new beginning.
