My review of Second Chance Cowboy

If you’re in the mood for a feel-good story, you’ve got to read Second Chance Cowboy by Claire McEwen. It’s been over a decade since Wes Marlow disappeared without a trace. No letters. No calls. He broke Emily’s heart, but now he’s back, hoping for a second chance. Though he doesn’t expect to be welcomed with open arms, he’s hoping to practice veterinary medicine in the only place he’s ever felt really at home, Shelter Creek. What he doesn’t know is that Emily is now the head vet in town, and he’ll have to prove to her that not only is he a good vet but also he isn’t going to abandon her again.

I loved Second Chance Cowboy! It is such a heartwarming love story. Yes, we’ve probably all read second chance love stories before, but I thought this book was very original. The reason Wes disappeared all of those years ago and why he never made contact will melt your heart. I certainly got emotional when Wes accounted for his actions to Emily and her parents. Yet, even after this, it’s hard for Emily to trust him, and I don’t blame her. Trust is easily broken but not always easily restored.

My daughter has always been a horse lover. I never got the horse loving bug that many girls do, but I loved the part of Second Chance Cowboy that involves a horse rescue. There’s another very unique animal rescue in the book too. You will be laughing out loud during this part! In fact, there is a lot of humor in the book, and we kind of really need some humor right now, don’t we?

Though I loved all of the characters, there’s one in particular that is super quirky, and I loved him! Be sure to look for him during the horse rescue chapters! The main characters are very well-developed and have relatable flaws. This makes them so much more real. I enjoyed how the author used secondary characters to move the plot along. The characters are all important to the story and how it progresses.

Obviously, Second Chance Cowboy is a book I highly recommend. It gets 5 stars and lots of smiley faces!
