Weed Lake: A Fuchsia/Brilliant, MN Crossover
GrannyEdith Press (March 1, 2022)
Print length ‏ : ‎ 228 pages

Hermiony Vidalia Criony Fiddlestadt, aka Granny, and Jezabelle Jingle are supersleuths in their own communities, Granny from Fuchsia and Jezabelle from Brilliant. Because they live only twenty miles apart in rural Minnesota, they are careful not to encroach on each other’s territory. Granny and Jezabelle both believe a rivalry exists on who is the better crime solver.

When Delight Delure, Granny’s friend and Jezabelle’s niece, sends them on vacation with the women’s two best friends, Mavis and Lizzy, they don’t know they will be actual cabin neighbors at Weed Lake in Northern Minnesota. During a skirmish with each other and an accidental plop in the lake, they find a dead body. Adding to the mystery are clues and puzzles left on their doorstep that may warn of danger and others that show friendship and caring. Which one should they believe? Are their lives in peril, or are they being pranked, and to what end?

The two cunning amateur sleuths work together to solve a murder that Sheriff Phil Puxatawny doesn’t take seriously. But mayhem breaks out, having all four women wondering if they’ll leave Weed Lake alive.

Character Guest Post

Hi, I’m Hermiony Vidalia Criony Fiddlestadt Crocker of Fuchsia, Minnesota fame.

And I’m Jezabelle Jingle of Brilliant, Minnesota fame.

“We…um…ah…really botched our last interview, didn’t we Jezabelle?

“We did, we did. This is us trying not to repeat our mistakes. You’ll notice Granny is very subdued, very unlike her. She feels just terrible that she ruined our last interview.”

“What? I didn’t ruin our last interview, you did.”

“Um…ah…let me put it another way, Granny. We spent so much time trying to one up one another you’d think we didn’t learn anything from our time together at Weed Lake.”

“Let’s just get on with this interview. We learned to get along at Weed Lake because the one thing we had in common was that we can’t let murderers get away. So, we had to work together to solve George Prank’s death.”

“We did, Granny, we did.”

“Although Jezabelle, never wanted to follow when I had to lead, and she was more concerned about food and feeding us then she was about finding the killer.”

“I what? Granny, what are you talking about? You’d be in jail if I didn’t stop you from insulting the sheriff. And…who is the one that had to rest on our journey to the hidden cabins? It wasn’t me. Who had to have a walking stick to walk! NOT ME!”

“That walking stick saved your life. I didn’t need it to walk. I needed to conk someone over the head, and I think it should have been you. Rest is good for the soul. I could see we weren’t going to make it if you didn’t rest, but you were too proud to admit it.”

“Lizzy, Mavis, what you doing here? Did you invite them Granny? But I’m happy to see them. They were our partners in crime or I mean solving crime. They should be at this interview too.”

“Oh, oh. We got here just in time, Mavis.”

“Lizzy, Mavis, what are you doing here? Jezabelle, you probably told them to come for back up and didn’t want everyone to know you needed protection. Did you think you needed protection from me? Mavis, no more carping at me like you carped about me at the Carp Fest at Weed Lake, or you have to go back home.”

“Jezabelle didn’t tell us to come. We decided all on our own that you might need our help. Mavis here was afraid this interview would turn out like the last one. Hi, everyone, I’m Lizzy, best friend to Jezabelle.”

“And I’m Mavis. I have my own pretend reality show in my living room and Granny is my neighbor. We’re here to tell you that all is not as it seems.”

“Yes, though Granny and Jezabelle carp at each other they both hold each other in high esteem They’ve learned to put their differences aside and work together at Weed Lake. We hope they take what they learned home to Fuchsia and Brilliant.”

“Jezabelle and I think we need new best friends.”

“Granny, let’s sit down and see what Mavis and Lizzy have to say.”

“I, Lizzy along with Jezabelle, would like you all to visit Brilliant. We are briliant and we solve puzzles that the Brilliant Brothers left to us. Weed Lake was an experience. The four of us together for the first time. I vow that it isn’t the last.”

“And I, Mavis…can’t I film this? Ok I’ll leave the camera off. I, Mavis, along with Granny, would like to invite you to visit Fuchsia but first, visit Weed Lake, you’ll love all the mudslinging. I think Lizzy and I can work together but I will hold my breath at Granny and Jezabelle, although they did make a good team. Granny and Jezabelle say your final good-byes.

“Thank you for this interview. Weed Lake was a charming experience, yes, I, Granny, used the word charming, and Fuchsia is waiting for you too. Wear pink if you visit, you’ll fit right in. Jezabelle doesn’t own anything pink, so you’ll be safe. She won’t be visiting.”

“I, Jezabelle do not agree with that statement. Pink is an attitude and those of us in Brilliant have wonderful attitudes, so even though you don’t see pink on our outsides with the buildings, or our clothing, you will find a pink attitude in Brilliant. We can out pink anyone in Fuchsia. Thank you for having us.

About Julie Seedorf

Julie Seedorf grew up in Southern Minnesota, attending grade school and high school in a small community. She learned the value of small-town life and small-town relationships. Still living in rural Minnesota, she cherishes the beauty of the changing seasons and the various landscapes the state offers.

Through the years, she has worn many hats. Her favorite was activity director in a nursing home and finally computer repair and sales, eventually earning her own business before retiring to write and enjoy life.

She is a wife and proud mother of two boys and one daughter, along with four grandchildren. Being a mom and grandmother is her favorite career. Julie feels no other job can hold a candle to raising up a child in the way they should go. Remember the poem? Watching the world through a child’s eyes and seeing them light up with wonder takes us to the beauty of simple things we sometimes lose as an adult.

Julie has four-book series. Granny’s In Trouble, Fuchsia, MN, Brilliant, MN, and the Whistle Stop Series. She likes to write light mysteries occasionally bordering on silly and fantasy because she believes we need to take ourselves out of the real world for a space of time to laugh and relax.

Thank you so much for letting Granny and Jezabelle visit. They have a hard time behaving themselves but this author appreciates the visit. And I love your site. Thank you again.
