Perfect for fans of Paige Shelton, an Alaskan tour guide is bracing for winter when she realizes that the wolves aren’t the only predators on the prowl.
With boat tours off the coast of Alaska shut down for the winter, tour guide Stacie Calder is joining the dedicated team at the Juneau Wildlife World, a wild animal sanctuary. Along with Sasha, her husky companion, she’s prepared to spend the long season in the scenic park. But not everyone is so chipper about the newcomers—least of all, Stacie’s new manager, Oliver Brownling. He constantly gives Stacie a hard time, specifically because she brought Sasha along with her. That is, until his mauled body is found in a remote part of the sanctuary containing wolves.
When it becomes clear that a human was responsible for the brutal murder, all eyes are on Stacie. Encouraged by her friend, Officer Liam Amaruq of the Alaskan State Troopers, Stacie is resolved to find the murderer but knows that her investigation will be difficult with the long suspect list she’s made. Did the sanctuary director plot to get rid of Oliver? Or maybe it was one of Oliver’s coworkers, upset over a missed promotion? Stacie wonders about some of the newer employees, especially since Oliver’s personality made it easy to make enemies.
With the weather worsening, Stacie and Sasha are forced to stay at the sanctuary with the wolves—and her colleagues. As the storm gets worse, it’s clear that this killer has a taste for blood and may strike again. Will Stacie be able to find the murderer, or will the hunter become the hunted?

Guest Blog Post, by Linda O. Johnston, who wrote Cry Wolf, the second Alaska Untamed Mystery, as well as Bear Witness, the first Alaska Untamed Mystery, under the pseudonym Lark O. Jensen:
Stories About A Naturalist Who Loves Protecting Animals
It has now been several years since my last trip to Alaska, but that most recent cruise was definitely the inspiration for my Alaska Untamed Mysteries.
Why? Well, I love animals. My favorites are dogs—and most of my books include dogs, including my Alaska Untamed Mysteries. But I also love seeing wildlife—which I definitely did in Alaska, including on a small tour boat on the waters near Juneau. And I’ve also visited animal sanctuaries.
That’s why the protagonist of these mysteries, Stacie Calder, started talking to me. Well, inside my mind she began to whisper and request that I create her. And she told me about the wildlife she saw—and wanted to protect.
In the summertime in Alaska, Stacie, a naturalist by vocation and enjoyment, just happens to give tours in the waters near Juneau like the one that inspired me so much, pointing out local wildlife such as seal moms with their babies along the water, and bears and moose and wolves along the shoreline, as well as eagles flying overhead. That’s what she did in my first Alaska Untamed Mystery, BEAR WITNESS. With her is her wonderful husky Sasha—whose name means protector.
And now the second one in the series has been published. Since it’s wintertime in Alaska in CRY WOLF, there aren’t any tours on the water being given, not in the icy, snowy weather. So Stacie spends the winter at Juneau Wildlife World, helping to care for the animals there who are under protection—yes, including wolves. But, as in BEAR WITNESS, someone is murdered, and Stacie has to help solve it. In CRY WOLF, the guy who’s killed has been giving Stacie a hard time for having her dog along at the sanctuary. When his body is found, it appears that wolves have gouged his neck. And so Stacie, to save herself from suspicion as well as the wolves she cares about, once more has to solve a mystery.
Is she successful in saving herself and the wolves? Well, CRY WOLF is another cozy mystery, and Stacie has already been successful as an amateur sleuth, so readers can probably guess that part of the outcome. And Stacie’s path there in the wilds of Alaska is hopefully fun.
