When the Village Blend opens a Writer’s Block Lounge, a cold case crime turns up the heat on Clare and her crew in this gripping new entry in the beloved Coffeehouse Mystery series from New York Times bestselling author Cleo Coyle.
As much as master roaster Clare Cosi adores coffee, the landmark shop she manages won’t survive if she doesn’t sell enough of it. So when the Village Blend’s customer traffic grinds to a halt, she turns to her staff for creative ideas, and the Writer’s Block Lounge is born.
Madame, the eccentric octogenarian owner of the shop, is upset by this news. Years ago, a group of accomplished writers used the shop’s second-floor lounge to inspire each other, but the group disbanded when something dark occurred. Though that history is shrouded in mystery, Clare presses forward…
Soon the Village Blend tables are filled with aspiring novelists, playwrights, and poets, all happy to be coaxed, cajoled, and caffeinated by her coffeehouse crew. Clare admires the stamina of these scribes, many of them toiling at night jobs—driving taxis, tending bar, ushering for Broadway—while penning projects during the day.
Then one of their fictions turns fatal when a shocking secret leads to a deadly end. Unless Clare can untangle this mystery, uncover the truth, and stop a desperate killer, she fears more of these weary writers may be marked for eternal rest. ~ Includes a knockout menu of recipes.
20 Years of Coffee and Crime with Cleo Coyle
For more than 20 years, readers have watched our Coffeehouse Mystery characters face down cold-blooded criminals, fight past personal failures, and survive the dazzling lights and dark alleys of New York City with the strength of camaraderie and good strong coffee.
From what our readers have told us (in emails and messages), one of the reasons they’ve enjoyed our books so much is because they are more than simple whodunits. Our long-running series also explores the ups and downs of relationships among three generations of women (a mother, a daughter, and a grandmother), along with a loyal group of co-workers and friends. Together, they make a loving family, one which our readers tell us they love, too.
If you’re new to our Coffeehouse series, I’m happy to introduce you to our amateur sleuth. Clare Cosi is a single mom in her forties who manages the Village Blend, a charming, century-old coffeehouse in New York’s historic Greenwich Village.
Clare often knows more than the police about the quirky and creative community she serves. When crime happens, and the professionals hit dead ends, Clare goes to work. And she has her work cut out for her in our latest Coffeehouse Mystery, No Roast for the Weary.
If you’re a newcomer to our Coffeehouse world, don’t hesitate to pick up our latest. Every title in our series can be read as a stand-alone story. And, if you like one, you’ll have twenty more to explore. But don’t miss this one…
In No Roast for the Weary, we did our best to create a page-turning murder mystery for you, an exhilarating roller coaster with plenty of surprises, but there’s even more here. Layered into our amateur sleuth’s quest for the truth are real and entertaining truths about the writing life—truths we know from our long experience living and working as professional writers in New York City.
Until our full-time careers as authors kicked into gear, we spent years laboring in this big, crowded, astonishing city, working day jobs while writing on the side, which is why we know how crazy, inspiring, and exhausting life in the arts can be (yep, No Roast for the Weary), and we weaved that knowledge and experience into our newest Coffeehouse Mystery.
At the end of the book, we even share a list of our favorite tips on battling creative blocks, including the dreaded “Writer’s Block”—an idea that plays an important part in Clare’s case. So, join us and hold on for this one. No Roast for the Weary is one heck of a caffeinated ride, and we hope you enjoy it.
“An interesting puzzle infused with Big Apple attitude.”

Marc and I had a great time writing our newest Coffeehouse Mystery, NO ROAST FOR THE WEARY, especially because it involves a quirky community of writers. We’re quirky ourselves, and we’ve been writing professionally for a few decades now, so this was a plotline we had agreat fun with, and we hope everyone has even more fun on the reading end of the process. Thanks again for hosting us!
