My review of Murder Plays Second Fiddle
Murder Plays Second Fiddle by Heather Weidner is the second book in her charming cozy mystery series, The Pearly Girls. It stars event planner Cassidy Jamison along with her Chihuahua mix, Elvis, and her “not-so-helpful sexagenarian staff” of her late grandma’s best friends: Roxie, Kate, Aileen, and Ruthanne. They’re hosting a high school reunion for the local class of 2009, and to say that the reunion committee is high-maintenance would be an understatement!
This was such a great read. The pacing was spot-on, there was just enough dialogue, and the mystery was well-plotted! I got to know the characters a bit in the first book, but I liked them a lot more in this one. I think that they’re settling into their roles quite well. I loved a certain mischievous act that the four older ladies committed in town. The reunion committee definitely would have driven me nuts! The head of the committee was so bossy and entitled, and her “minions” just did what she said! These reunion attendees all fit their roles very well as did the other minor characters. They all just felt like they fit.
Even though I was 99% sure that I knew who the culprit was, I loved how the mystery unfolded. It was fun following Cassidy and the others to discover the clues that led to the murderer’s capture.
There’s a tiny bit of romance, and I’ll enjoy watching it unfold through the following books. A new venue opportunity on the site opens up in this book too, and it sounds like it’s going to be a great addition…more places to find the bodies! I highly recommend Murder Plays Second Fiddle to cozy mystery fans who like books with quirky characters, small mountain town settings, and a little romance.
