Ah, the medieval times. The times of knights and ladies in distress. It’s the stuff of myth and legend. I’m a bit obsessed with the old BBC series Merlin. It was funny and exciting and should have never been cancelled! We’d hear “In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy. His name…Merlin.” Then we knew we were in for an amazing ride! This really made me want to visit Medieval Times.
Medieval Times Orlando
When one of my blogging friends told me about Medieval Times, I knew I had to go! This is the theme of Medieval Times: “In myth and in legend, the Knight and the horse are forever linked. Few things are held in such great esteem by the Medieval warrior than a stalwart horse, who possesses the bold courage of his master and the quiet strength of his ancestors.” My daughter has loved horses since she was a little girl. So when you put great food, horses, and Merlin-ish legends together, you get an amazingly fun experience.
The Castle
You’ll want to arrive at the castle at least an hour in advance of your meal, so you can tour The Medieval Life & Museum as well as the Castle Halls. I love how castle life is always so romanticized in books and movies. Can you even imagine how freezing it would have been?! Okay, I’ll admit, I could take a little cold if it meant living in a castle. Plus being wooed by a knight would be pretty awesome. Bring your imagination and your camera with you on your tour! There is so much to see and learn in the Medieval Life Village.
The Dinner
Get ready to dine Medieval style sans utensils. Your meal consists of garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, the pastry of the Castle, coffee and two rounds of select non-alcoholic beverages (Pepsi or Lemonade). If you are a vegetarian, they’ve got a special meal just for you! The food was so good! I don’t think I’ve ever had such good potatoes! The chicken was so moist and delicious. Our pastry was lemon pound cake and it was amazing. You get a lot of food, and they do provide carry home boxes if you need one.
The Show
While you are dining you’ll witness a two hour jousting tournament complete with knights, beautiful steeds, real weapons and a real falcon in flight. Cheer on your favorite knight as he competes in the competition, and you enjoy your meal.
