When it comes to the big spring (or summer) clean, there’s only so much a mop and broom can do. This is especially true if you’re looking to spruce up the outside of your home as well. Here’s a look at what you might need to do to give your home better curb appeal.
Start small with the garden
The easiest part of the spring cleanup, though perhaps the most involved, is the garden. Start making your garden healthier by dealing with a little bit every day. Mow the lawn one day, trim the bushes the next. Spreading a large project into little tasks can make it feel a lot more manageable.
Deal with the decking
Your decking will take a lot of punishment over the year and, as a result, it needs a little cleaning and maintenance. Look for deck cleaner to put in a pump-up sprayer and apply it thoroughly before washing it off with water or a scrub brush. Be sure to refinish and reseal your decking once it has been thoroughly cleaned.
Put a new face on it
If the facade, or exterior wall, of your home has been fading for a few years, then simply cleaning it may not be enough. To start with a clean slate for next year, as well as to better insulate and protect the interior of your home against the elements, consider new Hardie board siding. Not only does it have practical benefits such as decreasing utility bills, but it can add curb appeal to the home, as well.
Add some power to that wash
When it comes to hard exteriors, such as any paving stones, and that patio in the backyard, then you are going to need some power to make sure you can penetrate the surface and really clean out the dirt and grime that has been building. A good DEWALT pressure washer can clean much more effectively than simply using a hose alone. I can also cut out the hours of grafting that can come with trying to clean with a scrub brush alone. It also works well with the aforementioned deck-cleaning efforts.
Driveways need love too
Your driveway will need a good pressure washing, too. Make sure that you take the time to get down to ground level, removing any grass or weeds growing through cracks in your driveway. With a decent concrete resealer you can work at patching up any damage on the surface of the driveway, as well. If you have asphalt rather than concrete, there is latex asphalt sealer that works just as well, too.
The tips above can help you start to get a handle on your home’s exterior if it’s starting to majorly let you down. With these tips, you can keep it fresh every year. Just get the big stuff out of the way now so that your annual maintenance is a breeze, comparatively, from now on.
