Hazel must navigate around her husband, the DA and her surrogate uncle, the police captain, to find out what really happened. Hazel drives, hikes and snoops all over her small Appalachian town in an attempt to bring peace to the victim’s family and prevent her community from being torn apart by old grudges.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Cookies from Guilt is Midnight Blue
Hazel has these cookies on the menu of her café at the back of the bookshop. They’re also a go to for her to take to people who need some love because they are sooo chocolatey.
These cookies are extremely rich and best served with a glass of milk
Ingredients
¾ c. softened butter
¼ c. shortening
¾ c. peanut butter
1 ½ c. sugar
2.5 oz. melted unsweetened or semisweet chocolate
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
½ c. cocoa powder
1 ½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Peanut butter chips
Chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat the oven to 365
Cream together butter, shortening and peanut butter. Add the melted chocolate and mix to combine. Add the sugar and beat until fluffy. Add the vanilla and then one egg at a time while the mixer is running. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix again.
Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until combined, then add peanut butter chips and chocolate chips. Anywhere from a half to a full bag of each type.
Scoop the cookies onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment. Add about ¼ tsp, a little dollop, of peanut butter on the top of each cookie then put into the oven.
Bake for 9-11 minutes. Don’t over-bake.
Thanks for the yummy recipe, Hazel! I’ll shop at your bookstore anytime!
