The Disillusioned The Disillusioned

byD.J. Williams
A mother’s suicide threatens to destroy a family legacy. Her sons, Sam and Daniel, are forced to leave their comfortable worlds behind and search for a woman they believe can unlock the secrets that have remained hidden. They are propelled into separate journeys from Los Angeles to the heart of the Zambezi, where they are forced to confront a man known as Die Duiwel, the Devil.
On their adventures they will find themselves in a place where death is one breath away, where thousands of children are disappearing into the darkness, and where the woman they are searching for is on the hunt for revenge. When they stand face-to-face with the forgotten slaves of Africa, they will fight to redeem what has been lost.
“A fast-paced mystery … you won’t put it down until you’ve unlocked the secrets and lies to find the truth.” -Judith McCreary, co-executive producer, Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds, and CSI
“Riveting … an indelible picture painted with suspense.” -Mitch Kruse, author of Restoration Road
“An engrossing tale … makes you think about the world we live in and your place in it.” -Tony Guerrero, founder of F.A.C.T. Alliance: Fight Against Child Trafficking

My Review:

The Disillusioned is an amazing story! I just finished reading it, and I’m feeling that withdrawal you feel after reading a good book. It’s as if you have been on an incredible journey and now must return to real life.  This book is suspenseful, mysterious, thrilling, eye-opening, and convicting all at the same time.

This book deals with so many issues: depression, suicide, embezzlement, child trafficking, infidelity, and redemption. These all blend together seamlessly to make this story one that will stay with you long after you finish reading. From the very first chapter, it grips you and keeps you wanting more. It is a book that really makes you think.

What would you do if fame were thrust upon you? As a pastor, John Armstrong felt the call of God to build a church. He didn’t set out to make a mega church. He didn’t desire fame. But slowly his world became consumed with the church and it’s missions. This in and of itself is not wrong. But his family paid the price of his popularity and frequent absences. John was doing God’s work. Building missions and helping those in need. While his ministry was flourishing, his family was languishing.

His wife sank into a deep depression. One son left home at 18 while the other suffered with belonging. A year after John’s assassination, his wife succeeded in her quest to end her life. What is revealed in her will sets her sons on a  quest to find a mysterious woman whom they had no idea existed before the reading of the will.

What follows is a dangerous journey into Zambia where children are kidnapped and sold to the highest bidder. “The Devil” is in charge and no one has been able to stop him. Killings are second nature to him and his soldiers. Human life means nothing to him.  The journey to find Stella Adams becomes much more that just a quest to find one person. It becomes a political entanglement where the lives of many are on the line. The action is riveting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This book has so many messages. Put your faith in religion and you will lose your faith. Because religion and people are not perfect. They fail. We all fail. That’s why we put our faith in Christ. He never fails. Even in the face of evil, good will reign.

It is so convicting. If you have food, water, and shelter, you are rich. If you don’t have to worry about your children being kidnapped and sold as sex-slaves to the most evil humans alive, consider yourself blessed beyond measure.

I highly recommend this book. It transcends genres. It’s not just a book for Christian readers. It is a book for anyone who cares about fixing what is wrong with the world. It is for anyone who loves adventure.  It’s for anyone driven by compassion for a suffering world. And it is for anyone willing to be convicted to be more than what they are.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review which I have given.

When you think of all the outside things we don’t have to deal with (or even worry about dealing with) that are sadly normal to some others, you’re right, we’re very rich and very blessed.

Wow, that looks like it may be a very addictive book! Wondering though how graphic it is? I thought the Millenium Trilogy (“Girl with a Dragon Tattoo” etc.) were way too graphic. Thanks for sharing!

It has a little violence, but it is published by a Christian publishing house. It’s not anywhere near The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo violence 🙂

Oh, that sounds like a great book! I have found it difficult to find Christian lit that shares a message without being preachy. I might just have to add this to my growing must read list! Thanks for the review!
