The Mad Catter (Book 2 Whales and Tails Series)

A Whales and Tails cozy mystery series is set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. As a fourth generation islander Caitlin Hart is struggling to make her way as the economy and culture of the island evolves toward a tourism based industry. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt’s oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary. When she isn’t working with the cats, she helps best friend Tara, operate Coffee Cat Books, a coffee bar/bookstore/cat lounge.
Like all Kathi Daley Cozies, this series will include close friendships, a romance element, and recipes. This series differs from the others in that there is a ‘light’ paranormal element as Caitlin is helped in her investigation by Bella and Tansy, two very intuitive women who sell herbs and tell fortunes, and a series of extremely helpful cats who seem to show up and point her in the right direction at just the right time.
In book 2 of the series, a beautiful white cat named Alice comes into Caitlin’s life. Although Cait is expecting Alice’s arrival, she is unprepared for the fact that the furry feline is about to lead her down a rabbit hole in which nothing is quite what it seems. Not only does Cait find out that a very unlikely person is behind her Aunt Maggie’s illness, but when a body is found in the church, the only real suspect is someone Cait’s heart tells her couldn’t possibly be a killer.
My Review of The Mad Catter
If you are a lover of cozy mystery books, you need to be reading Kathi Daley’s books. When I read the first book in the Whales and Tails series, Romeow and Juliet, I knew that I had found a kindred spirit in Kathi. You see, the year before I read this, I actually “wrote” a cozy mystery book set on an island. The story had lots of cats and fun shops and stuff. It never came together because it was for NaNoWriMo, and it was just for fun. It ended up being a crazy mess where everyone was stuck in a blizzard, but let’s not go there.
Needless to say, reading cozy mysteries set on an island and including cats makes me very happy. It is my dream to live on an island on the beach and own a bookstore and have cats in it! I think Kathi has a bit of Tansy and Bella in her. She read my mind over the miles…or I read hers….
Anyway, I just love this series so far. Each book leads into the next, so you’ll want to read them in order. I adore the characters. They really come to life in this book, and you’ll want to sit down and get to know them. Of course, I love the setting because, hello, that’s where I want to live when I “grow up.”
I won’t give away any of the mystery, because you really need to read Romeow and Juliet to understand what’s going on with the murder. This is such a great series, and the books are very quick reads because you’ll just want to keep reading! I highly recommend you check out Kathi Daley, and her cozy mystery books.

Hello fellow Ohioan! I just found your blog from Kathi Daley’s page where she posted where all the clues will be for the scavenger hunt. I probably won’t get time for that but I wanted to check out your cozy mystery section (my newest obsession) and I also like clean romance sometimes too so will give that a peek as well. I’ll sign up for your emails so I can help you out a bit by getting books through your links once in awhile. I’m in central Ohio just about 30 min south of Columbus, kinda in the country so reading and winter (even the weirdishly warm one we’re having) definitely mix! When I’m not reading I’m sewing for 18″ dolls.

Cozy mystery books are so much fun to read. Kathi’s books are great because I feel like I want to live in them! I’m about an hour south of Cleveland. My daughter is 22 and has 2 American Girl dolls, but now they live in the attic 🙁 Time flies! It’s nice to meet you!
