Southern Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe
Thanksgiving is about family and friends. We watch the parade, dog show, and football, of course! Let’s face it. If you ask most people what their favorite part of Thanksgiving is, they’ll say the food. Southern Sweet Potato Casserole is a staple during our holiday gatherings. We eat it every Thanksgiving. It is sweet and decadent and part of our Thanksgiving tradition.
What are your favorite Thanksgiving foods? I like turkey, but it is not my favorite. I think that probably stems from thinking I could eat an entire turkey leg when I was about 9. Not a good idea! I mean, I still eat it, of course. It’s just not my favorite part of the meal. What I really love is my dad’s famous stuffing! It’s got wheat bread, walnuts, carrots, celery, onions and a bunch of other secret ingredients that he won’t even share with us! Really, I think he just wings it every year and it turns out well.
Then, of course, we’ve got the mashed potatoes and gravy! And how about all the vegetable side dishes? We make the traditional green bean casserole, but corn casserole is another holiday favorite among our family members. How about broccoli, rice and cheese? That one seems to pop up at holiday gatherings a lot!
My grandma always used to make sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, which is good, but this sweet potato casserole is divine! If I didn’t love pumpkin pie so much, this casserole could be my dessert! My mom got this sweet potato casserole recipe out of an old church cookbook; so it isn’t original, it’s just a favorite. I’ve got the recipe here for you!

I always double the topping so there’s more than enough to completely cover the sweet potatoes. I’ve been making this for years and it’s a “must have” or my family gets upset. Lol
Christy Maurer says
That topping is so good! Happy Thanksgiving!
