4 Tips To A Healthier Garden

Lifestyle

Thanks for sharing!

Avid gardeners are always looking for ways to get their gardens looking healthier and more colorful. Perhaps you’ve been struggling to keep things nice and green? The first thing to do is to stay on top of your weeding. Ensure that you remove weeds and dead plants promptly as these can wreak havoc on your healthy plants and flowers. Once you’ve got that covered, you can make use of these four tips to a healthier garden.

Get a healthy garden by composting

To make a good compost pile, you can use decaying organic matter like fruits and vegetables, grass trimmings, sawdust, twigs, eggshells etc. Mixing all these items together creates an amazing fertilizer that’s full of nutrients. The perfect compost pile will keep your garden healthy all year round. Composting allows us to help the Earth as well as helping our gardens. When you send organic waste to landfill, the conditions are not right for the waste to break down properly. Under such conditions, the waste produces methane gas as it decays. With this in mind, it’s far better to keep your organic waste for your compost.

Sprinkler Systems

A good sprinkler system is an excellent way to get a healthier garden. When you invest in a modern system, you can rest assured that your lawn is getting the exact amount of water that it needs. There are plenty of benefits to having a good sprinkler system. For example, with the use of timers and water gauges; there’s less chance of wasting any water. When you don’t have to use a hose, you’ll save yourself time to use elsewhere in your garden. If you’re looking for a great service to provider sprinklers and more for your home, try Andy’s Sprinkler, Drainage & Lighting.

Protection in Winter

Now that winter’s here it can feel like a bit of a dull season for gardening. Your plants may not be doing so well in the weather, so it can be a good idea to offer them some protection. Purchase some cloths or blankets and cover your plants at night time. When the sun comes up, ensure that you remove the cloths so that you do not suffocate your plants. Moist soil retains heat better than dry soil, so it’s a good idea to keep your soil damp. If your garden is looking a little drab, invest in a few flowers that bloom in the wintertime. Try violets, snowdrops or winter jasmine.

Ditch The Pests

Pests can be a real pain in the garden;  just when you think you’ve got yourself some lovely plants- the insects attack! Luckily there are some things that you can do to keep the insects away. Simply take some dishwashing liquid and mix it with a little water. Next, you can put the mixture into a bottle and spray it onto your plants. The solution will serve to ward off a few insects, (yet don’t spray too much because you won’t want to harm your plants)! If you prefer, you can use a solution such as a pyrethrum spray. Though it’s an insecticide, it’s a natural solution made from chrysanthemum flowers which have been dried out.

Making your home healthier, and keeping a healthy garden is a well worthwhile project ongoing. For the interior of your home, try prioritizing natural cleaning products to keep your home free of toxins.
