Number of Pages: ~400

Months after solving two mysteries involving her ancestors, time-traveling, castle-dwelling Countess, Lady Catherine Kensie, still suffers from haunting nightmares. Chased by a mysterious man, Cate ponders who could be haunting her dreams and disturbing her sleep. She’s also smack dab in the middle of a brand-new research project, having found journals belonging to the Scottish castle’s original owner.

As Cate digs into the castle’s history, not only do her nightmares become more frequent and more frightening, but Cate also begins to experience strange phenomena with the time portals enclosed in the castle walls. Controlled by the mysterious heirloom timepiece she received as part of her inheritance, Cate is shocked when she begins to slip in and out of other time periods despite not activating the mechanism that controls them!

Can Cate learn the secret to control the time portals and discover who haunts her dreams before she finds herself lost in time?

Character Guest Post: Time Traveling by Cate Kensie

When I moved to Dunhaven Castle, I didn’t think life could get any more amazing. I mean, I went from a three-room apartment to a castle in the Scottish Highlands. There’re more rooms in this place than I can count!

Shortly after I moved in, though, strange things started to happen. I thought maybe my new place was haunted. After all, aren’t castles in the middle of nowhere known for ghost sightings? On top of that, every Dunhavenite had a tale about the hauntings in my new home. And the local library had a book claiming the house had been haunted since it was built! It lists almost all the same phenomena I experienced when I moved in. Phantom music, voices with no one attached to them and then the real kicker: unexplained people roaming the halls.

That’s when Jack and I got concerned. We thought someone may be lurking inside the castle walls. It’s so large, it would be easy to miss someone hiding there. But we found no evidence of that. The discovery of what was actually behind the odd appearances and disappearances of the people was actually much larger than a squatter in the castle!

We weren’t seeing trespassers or ghosts. We were seeing people from other centuries! As it turns out, Dunhaven Castle houses quite a secret! There are time rips throughout the castle. When activated (by the gold timepiece that was part of my inheritance), they all you to slip into another year. We’ve found rips that allow us to access the 1850s, 1920s and more!

I can’t even begin to tell you how exciting this discovery is. As a historian, I was thrilled but even if you’re not a historian, I think most people can appreciate how amazing it would be to time travel.

Hopping back to another century to discover what life is truly like is an astounding gift. But what’s even better? Meeting your own ancestors. I don’t have much family, my parents passed away shortly after I received my Ph.D. I don’t have any siblings so the ghosts of my past are all I’ve got.

Meeting the people who shaped life long before I was born, the people who created my family line is indescribable. Ice skating with my great-great-grandmother, for example, or talking fashion with my great-great-great-grandmother is a feeling like no other.

On top of that, we get a sense of what life is truly like. It’s amazing how many conveniences we take for granted! Believe me, as a woman who can’t do much of anything in most of the times we visit, I am very pleased with how far we’ve come! And I can’t tell you how nice it is to return to modern times and be able to send a quick text to Jack to find him. I’ve wandered around a few times in the eras before cell phones wondering where he might be!

There is a downside to time travel though. Because of the way our time rips are structured, we have a time differential of fifteen minutes to one. So, for every 15 minutes we spend in the past, only 1 minute passes in the future. That can be useful because no one will miss us when we disappear into another era, but wow, is it exhausting!

We’ll sometimes spend hours in the past and return with only a few minutes passed. It’s like living a double life. I now know what a spy must feel like and let me tell you, it’s tiring!

But I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Time travel is definitely the best gift I’ve ever received!
