Book Excerpt
Something slammed into Tag’s shoulder a second before a deafening crack shattered the
stillness. He stumbled back a step, landing hard on his injured foot and grunting in pain. What
was happening?
Movement caught his eye, and he froze as someone scrambled down the pieces of wood
nailed to the tree trunk below the blind ten yards away and dropped lightly to the ground.
Whoever it was whirled around, gripping a pistol pointed right at him. Which made no sense.
Hunters didn’t use handguns.
For a few seconds, neither of them moved. Then a shaft of rose-colored sunlight broke
through the trees, gleaming off long, dark hair.
Tag squinted, trying to clear his suddenly shaky vision. “Jae?”
“Tag.” Slowly, she lowered the weapon and advanced on him.
White-hot pain ignited in his right shoulder. Tag lifted his left arm to touch the area.
When he pulled his hand back and stared at it, his fingers glistened red in the waning daylight.
Jae stopped five feet from him, the pistol dangling at her side. When and how had she
become such a good shot? If things were different, he’d gladly hire her as a sniper on his Special
Weapons Team.
Tag tore his gaze from his bloody fingers to stare at her. “You’ve got to be kidding me.
How many holes are you planning to put in me, woman?”
