My review of Eyewitness Sketch
I love Danielle Grandinetti’s books! The 1930s was not a time period in which the books I usually read are set, but since starting her books, I can truly say I enjoy learning more about it! I guess I never thought about when all of the bootlegging was taking place even though I know about prohibition. This book isn’t just about bootlegging, but it plays a big part.
Gabriella Salatino works as an illustrative journalist for the Di Stasio Giornaliste Agency. If you’d like to meet her boss more formally, I highly recommend Undercover Wish, the prequel to this series. It’s totally not necessary to read it, but I found it completely delightful. While on an assignment at a gala, Gabby senses that something is off. Her acquaintance, who’s at the gala as a writer, asks to speak to Gabby the next morning. When he fails to show up, she heads to his apartment to make sure nothing is wrong. Something is very wrong! He’s been murdered. Now Gabby is in danger, and the safest place for her is back on the small island where she grew up. Her childhood friend, Andri, is a police officer on the island, and he vows to take care of her. Neither of them could possibly imagine that Gabby’s off-island troubles would be entangled with the bootlegging happening on the island.
I loved Eyewitness Sketch tremendously! I was captured by the story right away. Not only does this have characters that leap off of the page, it also has intrigue woven throughout the plot. It had me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. Grandinetti knows how to keep you guessing! Gabby and Andri’s romance has second-chance romance, friends to more, and best friend’s brother mixed together in the best possible way! It was entertaining watching them reconnect and work together as their romance progressed. I’m excited to read more about Tabby, Andri’s younger sister, since she’s heading to Chicago to join the agency. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next!
