Book Review

Wow! I cannot believe that this is my first T.I. Lowe book! I am in complete awe of this book, and the story the author has perfectly portrayed. I cried A LOT while reading this…I mean, I do have a mug that says “I am pretty cool, but I cry a lot”…but still. This will probably make you cry. I shed happy tears too! Though my life is nothing like Junie’s, I felt everything she was going through, and that is due to the author’s incredible storytelling talent! Junie has gone through a lot of loss during her young life. It was easy for her to blame her problems on her circumstances, but she needed to learn that she’s not unique in that way. We’ve all gone through losses and have had bad things happen to us. She just dealt with it in the wrong way and has to find new ways to deal with those things. I loved her determination to stay sober. Junie’s growth throughout the book was beautiful to see.

I was completely immersed in South of Somewhere and could not put it down. The characters are amazing, and I loved discovering their stories during the book. This is a story about addiction and recovery, mainly Junie’s but not only hers. It’s about how complicated families can be. It’s about found family, and the love Junie finds within that family. That made my heart so happy. There’s a bit of romance and a lot of having a relationship with God. Junie may have felt abandoned and unworthy of God’s love, but through her found family and her swoony neighbor, she finds her way back to Him.

I seriously loved every bit of this book and didn’t want it to end, but it did have the perfect ending! I highly recommend it and give it way more than 5 stars!
