I. Love. Thor. He’s my favorite superhero. We’ve talked about why Thor is my favorite before, but you can never talk about Thor enough. If you’re watching a Marvel movie a week with me, you know this week is all about THOR!
THOR
THOR is the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the fourth in Phase One. I’ve told you before that THOR, IRON MAN 2 and THE INCREDIBLE HULK movies occur simultaneously, so when Agent Coulson has to go take care of a situation in New Mexico, that situation is Mjolnir falling out of the sky into the middle of the desert!
I’ve been loving rewatching these movies in their cinematic release order. We’ve talked about the fact that you could watch the movies in chronological order, but I feel like you know too much ahead of time that way! I love the fact that after you watch them in their release order, you want to go back and rewatch to look for the little clues and foreshadowings.
THOR has so much great stuff in it that you want to watch it multiple times just to pick up on it. One things I JUST picked up on this time was the fact that Erik Selvig mentions Bruce Banner, not by name, but by a S.H.I.E.L.D. reference. When Jane’s research is taken by S.H.I.E.L.D., Dr. Selvig tells her about an incident involving research he’d been doing with Gamma radiation and that she didn’t want to fight S.H.I.E.L.D. because of what happened to Dr. Banner (he’s missing).
I love that I can crack up at this movie even though I’ve seen it many times. The coffee scene, the “I need a horse” scene, Hawkeye’s line about sending in more guys for Thor to beat up, and, of course, the awesome Stan Lee cameo! I love the scene where Agent Coulson and another agent are looking at The Destroyer, and the agent asks if it’s one of Stark’s. Agent Coulson’s reply of, “I don’t know. Guy never tells me anything.” is so telling of Agent Coulson’s relationship with Tony!
I love Darcy! Her lines are the best. I’d totally have wanted to play her in the movie…well I’d have wanted to play Jane too because she gets to kiss Thor, but you know what I mean. She’s so funny and her timing is perfect. I love Jane’s intenseness in her “sciencey” stuff. I miss her character, though the scene in THOR: RAGNAROK where Loki says he’s sorry that Jane dumped Thor is pretty hilarious.
It’s all of these little tie-ins and more that make rewatching these movies so much fun! Not having to wait a year or more between movies gives you a better sense of the flow and how the movies are intertwined.
Then there is the profoundness of some of the lines, if you just think about it. When Thor asks Heimdall if Earth is lost to them and Heimdall says there is always hope. I think that says so much. We may feel so cut off from hope at times, but it is always there. And we know that Earth, indeed, is not lost to Thor.
I could seriously go on for days about THOR, but I won’t. Just go rewatch it this week! Make sure you’ve grabbed my printable list, so you can check off the Marvel movies you’ve watched before INFINITY WAR!
Speaking of INFINITY WAR, did you know that it is exactly 100 days until the movie opens in the US on May 4, 2018???? Let the countdown begin! I cannot wait! So, let’s just watch the trailer again to appease our anxiousness.
