Book 1: Seeking the Kidnapped Child
Meet Storm: Canine Search and Rescue

Anyone who knows me knows I love big dogs. All animals, really, but I have a soft spot for big dogs. They are loving, loyal, and amazing companions. I’ve had at least one, sometimes as many as four dogs, ever since I was a teenager—most of them weighing in close to or over a hundred pounds.
I’m always excited when I get to write a story featuring a dog, and the dogs are always treated as characters, with their own personalities, quirks, and opinions. All of my cozy mysteries feature dogs, but not all of my romantic suspense novels do. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work out to have a dog in the midst of high-stakes danger. But occasionally, it works out just right, as in Seeking the Kidnapped Child.
When I decided to write a story involving a canine search and rescue team, I had to figure out what dangers they would face and what kind of dog would be most suited to that danger. It wasn’t until I really dug into researching search and rescue dogs that I realized how many lives depend on them, or how many different kinds there are. There are dogs who track missing persons, dogs who search for those who are deceased, and even dogs who go into collapsed buildings to search for survivors, just to name a few. When I read about the Newfoundland’s affinity for water, and aptitude for water rescues, I knew I’d found the perfect match for my story. And then Storm was born.
I find it amazing how loyal and dedicated these dogs are. So much so, that they can even become depressed when they don’t succeed. After so much research, I’ve come to appreciate them and their importance in our lives even more.
And talk about loyalty. Right now, I have an Akita, Fluffy, and she is incredible, one of the most loving, affectionate, and loyal dogs I’ve ever had. While researching the breed, I came across the story of Hachiko, a Japanese Akita who was probably the most loyal dog who ever lived. He used to wait at the train station every day for his owner to return from work. One day, his owner passed away while at work. And still, every single day for nine more years, Hachikō made the trip to the train station to wait for him to appear.
Storm, FBI Agent Tristan McAvoy’s K-9 partner, shows that same kind of loyalty and dedication. But what happens when that loyalty is tested?
My review of Seeking the Kidnapped Child
Seeking the Kidnapped Child is another excellent, page-turning Love Inspired Suspense book by Deena Alexander. It’s the first in the Missing Persons Investigation line, and I’m already looking forward to reading more of these!
Pure evil exists in this world, and kidnapping children with the intention of selling them to the highest bidder has got to be one of the most horrific of evils. FBI Agent Tristan McAvoy infiltrated a kidnapping ring with the intention of taking the leader down. He was the perfect plant. With no family that they could threaten, Tristan had nothing to lose. Then he finds out that he does in fact have a child, and somehow, the leader of the ring knew it before he did. Avery Taylor, Tristan’s ex, tried to contact him for years after he dropped off the grid. Telling him that he was a father on voicemail was not something she wanted to do, so she eventually quit calling and gave up on him. However, when the kidnappers take their little girl, she has no choice but to leave him a hysterical voicemail telling him that their daughter was taken because of him.
I loved this book! It starts out with a bang and keeps going. The non-stop action and nail-biting suspense will keep you turning the pages long past your bedtime. Alexander’s talent for creating believable characters shines in this book. Avery and Tristan were both affected by tragedy in their lives. Tristan’s tragedy was the impetus for their break-up, but Avery was affected by his decision to disappear much more than he knew. Without their daughter being kidnapped, they probably never would have gotten back together. This event reminded me that God can make beauty from ashes and blessings from tragedies. It didn’t seem like it to them while they were going through it, but God was always in control. They rescue their precious daughter and forge a new relationship in spite of everything. I loved these characters and Storm, the Newfoundland search and rescue dog!
If you’re a fan of inspirational, romantic suspense books, you need to read Seeking the Kidnapped Child! I highly recommend it for its relevant though heartbreaking topic, realistic characters, dangerous setting, page-turning suspense, and second-chance romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
